In my view? It's a no brainer.
Start by picking something that you are passionate about, and that ideally, you are already qualified to teach others how to do. (or can quickly and easily "get up to speed" at an "expert" level.
Remember, as long as there is a significant part of the population that shares your passion and that is "less expert" than you are, you are already qualified to teach, coach, consult and help those folks improve in the areas that you are stronger than they. (in other words - you don't have to be the TOP expert in the world, or even online, to be qualified to develop a business model around mentoring other folks for fun and profit)
Next, start creating content JUST like this. I create articles like this one for at least one hour per day, and this daily discipline has resulted in MANY millions of readers, subscribers and visitors to my content, sites, services and offers just over the last few years alone. (and all 100% for free)
Then, you want to use that content to build your community. These are your subscribers, fans, friends and followers that will not only evolve into your customers and clients, they'll also help evangelize your business and brand to place you couldn't reach on your own. (very easy now thanks to social media!)
Lastly, you need to create a curriculum - a coaching offer, a course, a product or a program that you can sell to your community. Ideally, this is something you create of your own, but if you don't have anything yet to sell for yourself, finding a good affiliate program until you do is an excellent substitute.

Believe it or not, once you put the above pieces into place, hitting your income goal is MUCH more about the math, than the marketing. For example, if you add 50 people a day to your community (your email list) and have a $97 initial consulting offer in the niche that you have passion and expertise, you only need 1 person a day.....averaged out over the entire month, to hit your goal. Alternatively, you COULD Have one "premium" professional package that is pricier and more intensive... and sell 2 or 3 of those per MONTH and make the same amount of money. (in other words, 3 $1000 sales every 30 days averages out to the same as 1 sale a day for $100)
The key is to build a list, find out what they want, and then GIVE it to them with your follow up sequence, and through the trust, relationship and rapport that you build up through the content you create, the value you bring, and ultimately, the offer you can make to improve their lives by having you be a part.
It really IS that easy. And other than needing hosting, a domain name and an auto responder to start, this is LITERALLY the one online business you can start for under $50 and be making a full time income within 30-45 days to boot.
