In any business you need a clear idea of where you want to go. Never is this more valid than when planning how to start an internet business. There are so many different ideas available that it is extremely easy to get swamped with information.
So where do you start?
The answer - at the beginning.
Now that may seem obvious, but let me elaborate this statement for you.

Do you want to start an eBay business? Then you will need to figure out how to get stock, where to source packaging and how to check competitors pricing.
Do you want to provide a writing service? You would be advised to check out sites like Odesk and Elance to see what competition there is. Perhaps you want to provide specialist writing, i.e. technical manuals. You would need to check what businesses needed this service and what they would expect to pay.
Do you want to create a website? You would need to either learn HTML and css coding, or get software that does it for you. In addition you would need to find a host and know how to upload your site.
There is a wealth of knowledge required for any pursuit online. While the information is all there it does take time for any of us to digest it and really know what we are doing.
So my advice is start at your beginning and figure out what you need to know. Then, start taking steps to put it into action (and try not to be diverted along the way).
When you are on this path you need to take things slowly. It is all too easy to think you have everything figured out and suddenly hit a wall. Make sure that you understand the pitfalls as well as the overall route. Too many internet marketers tend to go into high gear before they understand how to drive in low gear, and then wonder why they crash and burn.
You are not in a race in marketing. It is nice to get the high income, but experience and knowledge are what get you there.
